Default K&N intake kit worth it?????

I have a 2000 monte carlo pace car and Im looking for some more power for minimal $ and something that doesnt require lots of work. I was thinking bout the K&N system but some people told me it doesnt really help, wondering if anyone knew or had any advice for me or knows of any other part i could buy. Would appreciate the advice thanks.
