Question Good Bye Stock Resonator!

Well, my stock resonator blew out last week, and im embarrassed all to hell because it sounds TERRIBLE rolling down the street. it's going into the shop this week.

anyway, i bought a Summit Racing glasspack muffler to put in its place. i live in PA so it's required to have a cat, res, and mufflers on your vehicle b/c of stupid state inspection. will it sound much different (if at all) with the stock mufflers still in place? and more importantly, will it give my car more breathability with a more freed up exhaust? thanks for all your comments!!

I hve no idea. the state of PA is extremely strict when it comes to state insp. my mechanic just told me it has to have a fully functional exhaust the way it came from the factory. in my case, cat, res, and 2 mufflers. i can upgrade it with performance parts, though. just as long as it still has all that. and i dont want to post a vid. haha XD it's really bad. take 3800 Series II and mate it with a air-powered chainsaw. thats the best way i can describe it.

Ahhhh ok. I don't see how they're allowed to have a requirement of how it came from the factory. As long as it meets emissions and isn't too loud who really gives a flying hoot. And yea I've heard the S2 without a res, it is badddd

You arent required to have a resonator in PA. I dont have one. You are only required to have a cat and 1 muffler. Technically, running a cat and only a resonator is legal in PA since a resonator is classified as a muffler.

mrl390: Ahhh, i see. well, my mechanic has been my neighbor for years, built my dad's engine for his classic chevy truck, and does NASCAR engines. so im trusting his judgement. haha thanks for your input tho. i didnt know that, it helped a lot!

yutzybrian: im a commuter to college everyday. so i get to drive thru the middle of campus sounding like that so embarassing. im hopin to get an appointment to get the glasspack installed on tuesday. if not, its gonna be thursday.

This is 100% correct.
