So after all the countless threads of people saying that the 5th gen exhaust is 2.25 inches I bought me some new two chamber mufflers with a 2.25 inlet. Well turns out the exhaust is really 2 inches in diameter..I guess that's what I get for not measuring.

I'll have to pick up some reducers tomorrow. I am going to cut off my old muffler right behind the resonator and put in a y pipe from a junk z34. Then two mufflers. No tips yet, but soon. I'm probably going to get flammed for this but I'm going to clamp for now because I don't think I can weld without burning holes in the pipes.. lol Now I have to buy 5 clamps instead of 3 because I need reducers...great. Hopefully pics and a video when I'm done.

 

Can't you return the mufflers?

 

What mufflers did you go with?? And Ive used clamps before. If you do it correct and dont tighten one side all the way first, youll have a good seal.

 

Z34's have 2.25 inch exhaust. LS' have 2 inch exhaust.

 

I beg to differ..I got the y pipe straight off of a stock z34. It measures 2 inches OD.

I got some mufflers from Performance Curve. I do believe they are the same as mrl390's.

I don't want to return them because I start school next week and I want to have them installed by then. Shipping them back will be too much of a hassle. I'll just buy the reducers.

I got it all put together today! I love the way it sounds. Much better than stock. I still have to run to the parts store on Monday and buy me some hangars. Right now the mufflers are hanging by some straps lol. That and get some tips and I'll be done. Anyone recommend some nice exhaust tips?

Thanks guys. Yeah I tried it on my laptop and I could hardly notice a difference but then I plugged in my surround and it sounded a whole lot better.
