Default Exhaust for Drag Racing?

What exhaust size will get me the best times in the quarter mile. I have heard that a bigger exhaust allows more flow which results in better times, but i'm not sure. Could someone give me some pointers on this one?

but you dont want to go too big, i wouldn't say any bigger than 2.5"piping all the way back, 3" may be too much and you'll lose back pressure and horsepower

i would stick with 2.5 and just free it up a little

ie. get rid of u bend
high flow cat
get rid of resonator
high flow mufflers (like magnaflow or something)
maybe look into mandrel bent exhaust for the least amound of bends

That sounds good, and if you really want track performance, get a cut out haha.

actually brock that might not work out well for times. you have to place it very strtegically becuase you can loose back pressure and then loose out on the barametric pressures making it harder for the enigne to exhale and breathe. this is shown best in a turbo. but the turbo will then make more psi and more power so it is beneficial and outwheighs all the restrictions form it
for the cut out find someone who has one and see what happened.
if not you might be better off just improving your flow like others have stated before, the ubend resonator etc.... and stay bellow a three inch exhasut. some headers and a down pipe will help

just do as wiz kidd, your first replier did. i used to get caught up on what exhaust was best.. but i've learned that you really don't pick up any noticable difference, you never really make any more power with magnaflows than flowmasters, no more with dynomax than with straight piping. just pick the exhaust that sounds the best and go with it.

If you're concerned about running the best 1/4 mile time possible- get the exhaust that sounds best to you on the street (stock or aftermarket), and then just drop the catback at the track (its not that terrible to do). If you're pretty much totally stock, its unlikely you'll pick up any power doing this- but you'll cut alot of weight- especially over the rear end. The more heavily modded you get- you will start to see some minor hp gains as well.

i was also going to mention cut out. those do increase HP as long as pressure can be kept. I wouldnt go to 3" and do a cutout, in fear or not having enough pushing back.
