Default electric exhaust cut out

I just purchased one for my 01 ss n/a. I ordered one from the net last nite, and I have been thinking about placing it right before the catalytic converter but im not sure about it yet. Any thoughts on that? were would it give me optimum performance? also would it affect the preformance of my car when its not in use, as it has that extra 2 inches of pipes coming down from the stock exhaust?

that's where i see people install them, right before the cat. i hate to bust your bubble, but i think it's going to sound crappy at wot. cut out is better if you have turbo or V8 that's why i never want one.

Yeah, before the cat for sure. However, if you have emission testing- chances are that they won't let you pass w/ it because cutouts don't necessarily seal perfectly.

I dont think I have to do an emmissions test this year, but i'll double check on that before I weld in the pipe, I dont want to end up wasting and extra 60 bucks on taking the pipe back out ha.

If you do have emission testing, then what I'd personally do is to buy an aftermarket downpipe (not sure if you already have one or not)- either with a HF cat or no cat. Then weld your cutout to that instead, and keep your stock downpipe/cat- so when you have to do emission testing, you can unplug your cutout and just put your stock cat'd downpipe back on.

I suppose your other option would be to buy a blockoff flange for the cutout opening, and just swap that for your cutout when emissions comes- but I don't know you local laws- I think it would be easier just to swap back to your stock downpipe for emissions.

I just checked and I dont have to do emission test this year, and I am going to buy an aftermarket down pipe. I would hate to remove all that stuff in the following year if I do an emissions test.

Also is there a problem with back pressure when I have the cut out open. I wouldnt want to mess up anything by having it on.

it wont mess up anything- worst case scenario is you might get a code thrown for the rear o2, but thats no biggie

Thats good to hear. Well I just installed it this morning and my car sounds ****en loud as hell. It doesn't really sound good from the inside of the car, when I am driving it. But I had my sister driver around the street so I could listen to it from the out side(drive by's and such); I have to admit ,it sounds bad ***. I was afraid that the cutout might make my car sound like **** but it sounds nice, even thought it sounds like a diesel truck.
