does an exhaust tip do anything
the tip doesn't have any affect on your sound, just the looks fo hte rear of your car. you have to go just a little past that, to those mufflers, to make a difference in sound. i've changed tips for looks, absolutly no difference in sound or performance
well, a thin outerwalled tip will give a tinny sound, versus a thicker tip will give a more pronounced sound. Dont get resonated tips, they dont do nething and they rust out. Stainless are the best, they wont rust or pit like chrome.
I had 2.5 in turn down tips on my caprice and it sounded ok. Then i put on 3.5 in straigh angle cut tips and i thought it sounded a lot better, granted they were about 12 inches long. and with my pickup I had the same tips just 24 inches long and coming out behind the rear wheel. it sounded great.
depends what you mean by exhaust tip, do you mean just the shiny piece on the end of the tailpipe, or do you mean one of those fart cans?? if its just the tip @ then end of the exhaust system then no it doesn't do anything sound wise, theyre just for looks and shinieness, no performance gain from them, a fart can is just stupid on the monte's though
i have 4" slants, it actually sounds a lil louder then the ones i had *the bowtie shaped ones* cos it disperses into a wider area i dunno tho, i just think its better sounding then the smaller ones i usta have
did your car not come with a factory tip on it ?? mine came with some pretty nice one's on it, i do agree that when you put a bigger tip on an exhaust thats already loud it does make a difference, but on a stock system i dont know if it would change the sound
