Yeah it definetly makes a difference. I just installed mine 2 days ago and I love it. It sounds more aggressive and you can feel the car pick up more.

I highly recommend anyone wanting more horsepower and torque to get the CAI cold air intake.

My K&N does NOT seal against the hood like my wife's Z71 unit does. I like the smooth pipe it has, plus the shroud and PCM mount. I made a Lexan cover that slides under the brace to keep the hot air out. I actually have several versions, one from plexiglas. I'm going to make one soon for show with vinyl graphics on it.
I didn't like the fenderwell units because they were too open for the bad weather we have here in Michigan, and the others all seemed to use the factory tube, or one similar, and I didn't like that. The K&N was expensive, but I liked it the best.
By the way, it was an instant 2mpg! 22.5 before, and 24.5 after.

wiz kidd, can you take a close up pic of your K&N for me please? My heat shield is lower than the brace over it. The cover I put on it is about 1/2" below the brace. My gasket is inside the shield, not on top, like my wife's '99 Z71 CAI.

That's right... the brace on top of the CAI would not let the hood create a seal connection, but it helps in preventing must of the hot air from the engine to be sucked in. In my case, the inside linner on the hood, touches the brace, thus making the opening smaller.
