Cold Air Intake

Ok....so the stock air box pulls the air from the front grill area. A K& N system sucks warm air from under the hood and this one http://www.coldairinductions.com/W-BodyColdAirBox.html Cold Air Intake Box takes it in from the front also. If I already have a K&N filter in the stock airbox....will it be that much of an improvment to make it worth spending that kind of money? Are the horsepower increase numbers that they claim for real?

Abso-friggin-lutely. It is deffinitely worth the money. The CAI I got for my Monte was only about $160 and it makes a heck of an improvement. The stock box is WAY WAY too restrictive because of the design and that small little hole it sucks airs through. If you replace with an open filter and a straighter, smoother pipe, you will have much better results. Especially if you ever intend on doing any other intake/exhaust related mods, the new air system is a great place to start. I hope this has been of some help to you, let us know what you decide to do.

I was wondering about the pipe as the system that i posted the link to uses the factory rubber hose off of the intake to the cone filter in the box unlike the K&N which uses the smooth pipe so I don't know which setup would be the better buy?

Either one you go with is going to out perform your stock system, the cold air model you mention that uses the stock rubber hose is going to do well because the filter is larger and more open than your stock box (which is exactly what it sounds like... a friggin box) but the K&N will have a huge smoothe pipe as well as a pretty dern large, and very open filter. K&N is always a wise choice, in my opinion you can't go wrong with K&N.

or you cheat and get some smooth pipe and make your own :-)
you can make it cheaper then what they are asking if you want that box under the hood then that is a good choice otehr wise i would make one. Mine is threw the fender and sux air out of infront of the engin bay so i have true cold air flowing threw it instead of one that sux warm air off the rad. But i didnt see paying 300.00 for a box that was being offered at the time Right now i have the stock rubber hose that will be being replaced as soon as we get back to the real world LOL

Thanks for all the info guy's and you have talked me into getting rid of the stock setup. now I just need to decide on the box, making my own (which I have been looking into) or the K&N setup.

Just FYI - The K&N CAI doesn't pull warm air in. It pulls cold air from the outside and has foam on the top lip to connect to the hood to keep the engine bay air out. I still wouldn't use the K&N due to its cost. I like my Wizaired CAI that I got from ZZP.
