That's more than triple or quadruple the going rate around here just to cut a couple mufflers off and weld on new ones. If the shop knows what they're doing the job should take less than 1/2 hour...especially with the easy access to the mufflers on a Monte. When the shop installed my downpipe and glass pack in place of the resonator I was quoted $250 for a complete system replacement including mufflers. Bending the pipe (if they don't use prebent aftermarket) is just a matter of punching a preprogrammed pattern into the machine. If he has his own mufflers $600-$700 (imo) seems a little much to pay for a complete exhaust unless it was all stainless steel with a lifetime warranty. Then I might consider that price as reasonable.

If it's stainless piping, that will run a little more. Again, I think $300 (if stianless) is not too bad.

He said all new exhaust for the high quote. Not just a muffler swap. The shop is bending the pipe themselves and welding it together, and welding stainless is not an easy task. So on the high side of what I said as far as labor rate, it is not that far off. But if they are using clamps like some of the shops here use dont do it. They only last around a year. my dads pickup had clamps holding the pipes together and it sucked.

For stainless steel the price would be around $1000. And yes the high end price was for a whole new exhaust system. I'm from Canada and I'm still checking out different shops the average quote is $300 for the simple swap. I'm really wanting to do the whole system so I might just save up. The guy that quoted me $700 is trust worthy and knows what he's doing. He explained everything how he's going to do it welding beding etc... and that it would be easy. All the other places were like "hmm this is going to be tough and take a while blah blah blah"

I say those are the right prices. If you live in the sticks your price will be super low. I know because where I live labor is 50 an hour but 45 min north in the city its 120.
