Am I being Ripped off?
That's more than triple or quadruple the going rate around here just to cut a couple mufflers off and weld on new ones. If the shop knows what they're doing the job should take less than 1/2 hour...especially with the easy access to the mufflers on a Monte. When the shop installed my downpipe and glass pack in place of the resonator I was quoted $250 for a complete system replacement including mufflers. Bending the pipe (if they don't use prebent aftermarket) is just a matter of punching a preprogrammed pattern into the machine. If he has his own mufflers $600-$700 (imo) seems a little much to pay for a complete exhaust unless it was all stainless steel with a lifetime warranty. Then I might consider that price as reasonable.
seems high to me as well, i think my flowmaster, muffler and installed was $100 something at the garage my car is normally serviced at.
He said all new exhaust for the high quote. Not just a muffler swap. The shop is bending the pipe themselves and welding it together, and welding stainless is not an easy task. So on the high side of what I said as far as labor rate, it is not that far off. But if they are using clamps like some of the shops here use dont do it. They only last around a year. my dads pickup had clamps holding the pipes together and it sucked.

For stainless steel the price would be around $1000. And yes the high end price was for a whole new exhaust system. I'm from Canada and I'm still checking out different shops the average quote is $300 for the simple swap. I'm really wanting to do the whole system so I might just save up. The guy that quoted me $700 is trust worthy and knows what he's doing. He explained everything how he's going to do it welding beding etc... and that it would be easy. All the other places were like "hmm this is going to be tough and take a while blah blah blah"
ok im confused a lil bit. ok i did a post on my exhaust called it magnaflow. ok i had a plugged cat on my 2002 monte found direct fit high flow by magnaflow 200 bucks then i call muffler shop said i want a res delete pipe 20 bucks and they welded it ok so the cat has a flanged pipe going 3 foot back and is welded on to the stock bend and y pipe for the duals now i havnt look 2 far in to the muffler pricing yet but still im in 220 bucks and half my exhaust is redone so i think those prices r insane!!
find a better place i was qouted 300 dollars for install and the delete but thats not including the mufflers and pipe so 700 probably for everything but i know my buddy would do it for 125 dollars for the install hes a mechanic...good friend also
