Air intake questions,help?
IDK what type of plastic that trash can is made of, but cheap plastics give off gas when exposed to heat and you don't want those gases to enter the engine.
Same reason why I tell people to get ABS plastic piping when they build their own instead of using crappy ol' PVC

nevermind on the extension part. i just spoke to my mechanic friend that works at a muffler shop and he said he'll weld on a 6 inch extension for 5 bucks.lol.ima just try to get him to give me a whole new pipe for the same price!lol
I think that stuff is sorta stiff. I thought if I made one I use that aluminum tape (like the use for furnace duct work) to seal the edges. Not duct tape tho. I'd try to make one but by the time I was done it would be so elaborate I'd end up spending more then they cost.lol
Cheap and easy are two words I like alot. Basiclly GM give you the best cheap and easy airbox. The stock airbox. What you will need to do is to take the stock airbox and gut it. Then use a K&N drop in filter. The gutted stock airbox will perform close more expensive airboxs but not as quite as good. When I get more time and money, I would like to wrap my gutted box with the heat reflective tape (for airducts for houses) to try to keep it just alittle bit more cool. Anyways I hope this helps.
If you are going for looks as well then by all means go with what everyone has said. Their airboxs look awesome and maybe someday I will get the time and money to try to do something as awesome as theirs.

Update
So I made a whole new pipe out of aluminum, it's alot thicker than the short one I got from eBay. The filter now sits in the right place for the box that I will be building. First, does anyone know if this new pipe will be getting too hot since it's not chrome and is unable to reflect heat? Or is it going to get as hot as the first. Also, I wanted to paint the pipe because it looks dull right now. Temperature wise, will the paint improve the pipe or allow more heat to penetrate since it isn't shiny to reflect heat? What paint is best?thinking of a flat black like the k&n one.what paint is best?
