Default Won’t idle

I have a 1988 Monte Carlo SS with 46k original miles , all original. I can’t get the choke to work for cold start fast idle and after you drive it and get everything up to temp, it won’t idle and stay running . I have to keep giving a little gas when stopped to keep it running . Ant ideas would help . Thanks

This may have a vacuum leak someplace, I used to own a bunch of Carbed vehicles from back in the day and that is why I am an old guy. But we used to fix that kind of stuff all the time.
Clean the Carb up with the gunk spray cleaner it could be Carboned up. Clean up the tension unit that returns it to idle. (choke to work for cold start fast idle) Then replace all the Vacuum lines. The Vac lines were the biggest issue. New PVC is good also. This car probably has a fuel pump on the Block yet so check that thing to make sure it is good or just replace it. In side the Carb are some little filters that are about the diameter of a Dime and maybe a half inch tall. replace those as well
