I bought the Monte for a lot of reasons...

I had just totaled my 03 Cavalier and needed a new car.

I was at the dealer looking at Cobalts (the SS Coupe version). I saw a black SS Monte on the showroom floor and looked at it...really liked the looks, but was not a fan of the gas mileage. So the sales guy goes on to tell me about a V6 he has in the back that they are discounting that I should take a look at. So I did...loved the color, loved the comfort. Test drove it and loved everything about it, smooth, powerful, etc...and I liked it's size. I got 5K off sticker and 0% financing on a 5 yr. loan. Came back the next day and sealed the deal.

Default First one? I have had 4

The First one was a 71 Monte it was Black and had the big block. Then some body offered me some good cash for it and it was gone! Then I went back to a Chevelle. The Camaro's and Impala's. The 2nd one I owned was a 1985 Monte Carlo I bought is for a company car from my local Chevy dealer it had 5K on it and it lasted to about 175k and I stuck and engine and Trans was rebuilt to I sold it to one of the roofer guys that worked on my house, he need a school car for his daughter.. I was a Sales Rep. Then I got an Oldsmobile. When they gave up I got back to a Monte Carlo the first one was a Red one for my Son, he was so upset he had to drive his sister's old Grand
Am, which was a nice one but he hated it. A 2dr GT and he did what he could to ruin the thing so it was a pressure thing to get him his Monte Carlo. So I found a 1997 Black Z and thought I had it bought and the dealer sold it to someone else, it was used and I was upset and so was my son. This dealer called me then several times with more but I didn't trust him anymore.
I found the Red one 1997 it was the LS it had this pain in the neck auto door lock feature on it and if you started it up and got out it would lock you out. Anyway I have attached a photo of me behind the wheel. The kid was a virtual Chic magnet, he would go out with his buddy's, they would cruise the lights and pretty soon there would be couple of Cars pull up to the house. 1 was loaded with Chic's they would get out and hop into that Red Monte and then they would go, His Buddy's would be in the other Car and follow him off until .................. what ever happened.

Man if I drove the thing all the young girls that new him would be waving, until they seen it was me. Lol. Even though he was rough with it, the car had relatively little maintenance issues. It was going to need new struts before he traded it. We had to work on the AC once. It was good to fix that as a team so he appreciated the headaches with cars. Ha!
He moved to Phoenix, AZ and he called me once and told me his car was hard to control, shimmied in the front when he used the brakes. Question? did you have the wheels off the thing and didn't Torque it to the correct ft. lbs. so then he tells me he went to the Grand Canyon and he used the Brakes all the way down the mountain back to Phoenix. warped them rotors

Then came my 1999 Back Monte and it has been a good car so far and not to many issues It has nearly 200K and I redid the brakes once already. I thought it might need them again and the shop I have been using said they were good yet for at least 50K. But I never use the brakes.

In the early New Millenium years all NASCAR bodies, whether they were Ford, Chevy, Toyota or Dodge, were all built to the dimensions and shape of the Monte Carlo. Only the sticker differentiated the manufactures. Basically, every NASCAR wanted to be a Chevy

I had a '84 Monte SS HO Blue, only came in blue and white that year,Loved that car looked for it for a long time,it was stolen, stripped and gutted 5 months after I got it! whaaa!,next I got a '87 SS, nice car not as fast as the '84 and had the OD trans, had it for many years, kids came the paint went, way to much to paint it properly so I went to an '89 Ford Bronco II that fit kids and hauled my drums to gigs! kids got older and I bought the '03 SS Pace Car...yeah!! had since 2007,not near as fast as the predecesars but drived better. I wanted ont of these ever since I was at Daytona 500 in 2001? when Dale died,I was in infield at turn four when it happened, but earlier walking through the infield I saw the corral of black ss pace cars they had and went...oh yeah, gotta have one of those!! all three of my Montes were blue, even though I searched for black ones! guess Im destined to have a blue Monte and I still love it!! its my baby!!!
