The Wal~Marts around here do auto reapairs too. Sounds like they got the setup where there`s a bunch of hoses hanging down from the ceiling. Each with something different in it. One for antifreeze, one for washer fluid, one with bulk 10W30 motor oil, and so on.

I agree with the what the dealer said. Sure you know the kid making minimum wage at Wal~Mart did it. But good luck in getting anything out of them. At most you may get a coupon for a free oil change. But only after arguing for a month and threatening a law suit. I would only get work done at Wally World if I was stuck and had no other choice. I don`t care if you`re driving a Cadillac or a Yugo. I don't trust them.
Well, if it's his only vehicle then he doesn't really have the luxury of fighting this battle anyway, kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. But if he's got another vehicle he should for sure fight them because how else could we get them to change their ways? If more people would stand up and fight when they're wronged then maybe they wouldn't be so lax about their accountability. Think about it another way, if he did decide to escalate it they would make a business decision, pay $1000 or more to fight the case or $450 to make it go away. I guarantee you they wouldn't choose the former, but they bank on intimidating people in situations like this so most of the time nobody challenges them. You'd be amazed at how much a well written letter from an attorney can accomplish

Something I would expect out of them.

They're known for intimidating their own suppliers as well as the competition.

This is why I do all my own maintenance. Preventing this very kind of situation. When you do it ... you take your time and pay attention to the details. Somebody else just wants to get it done and get-on to the next one.

When I do have to get it done someplace; I watch!
"If the guy says regulations don't permit people in the shop" ... I ask him if he still wants the business. Because if I don't get to stand there and watch ... It ain't getting done.

Same here, I do as much as I possibly can.
