Hmm seems like people are pretty split on this haha.

I think the 4th gens are cool, but how easy are they to find in good condition/low miles?

One of the reasons I was shooting for a newer car was...well, it's newer and with relatively low miles - something that I can hang on to for a long time, or at least until such a time when I need something bigger than a coupe.

Well if you like the looks of the 4th gen better and want the convenience of a newer engine, get the 4th gen and swap in an LS motor, or even better, one of the truck motors (same design but cheaper). Modern engine swaps are increasingly popular into older cars and I actually plan to do a modern swap into a 4th gen Monte as soon as my wallet is in agreement and I have room for the car. There's so much information out there these days that you can find an answer to just about any question you may have on the subject. Just some more food for thought.

Thanks for the insight. I'd probably choose buying a newer model car over doing an engine swap - a top-swap is one thing, but changing out the entire engine seems like alot of variables to deal with as far as reliability, safety, etc. are concerned.

Even so, I'm not mechanically competent enough yet (nor do I have the equipment) to do that myself, and getting it done at a shop would probably be hella expensive. At that point, it seems like it would be more reasonable to just buy a new car. I like the 4th gens, but probably not so much that I'd go out of my way to buy a whole new engine.

I'm new to the MC enthusiast scene, so I'm not as attached to some of the older models like alot of you guys :p
