Default upgrading to synthetic?

I just bought a 96 mc with 98,000 miles (3.4 unfortunately) and i am wanting to switch to a synthetic blend, is there any thing i should do extra to not have any problems with the switch?

Just make sure you let all the old oil drain out.

I switched over to Castrol SLX 4718 full synthetic (got it from a Chevy dealer) a couple oil changes ago. I noticed the engine runs smoother than regular oil.
