Sometimes you just have to work the system to get what you want. I went to the junk yard today to get a few parts and to return an a/c compressor for the core charge. They did not want to take the compressor because I was a couple of days over the time they allow, which is my fault because I did lose track of how much time had passed. So, I took the compressor back to my car and then went into the scrap yard. I made it a point to find a compressor someone had already taken off and just left on the ground somewhere and I found one fairly quickly. I bought the compressor and paid the core charge. Next, I took the compressor I already had and used it to get the core charge back. I went to grab a bite to eat then returned to the junkyard. I took the compressor I just bought back and said it did not fit. Since they do not give cash refunds I just took the store credit and used it to buy the parts I was already planning to buy anyway. In the end, they took the part I returned for my core charge refund. There was also a bonus...the core charge increased from the time I bought the first one. Mission accomplished!
