Sorry to hear about the trade in blues.
I read this thinking it seems weird to need to get a newer car to replace an '04 Grand Prix. I later see the GP has 130,000 on it. I'm reading all that thinking, unless there is something really wrong with that GP, it sounds to me like no need to replace.... I'm still driving a '94 Grand Am as a daily with over 210,000 miles. Last December, we bought an '05 Impala with 150,000 on it for my wife to use as a daily. During the summer, she drives an '01 Mustang, and so long as my Grand Am still has life, the Monte is right now a summer only car.
Don't get me wrong, I understand theres a LOT more dynamics in the need/want area that factor into your trade in decision (such as trading in the car with the higher value). It just stinks. But we all have our reasons for making our decisions. Bottom line, I hope your plans work as you hope. If so, sounds like it will be worth it in the long run.
