Alright here is my dilemma. I've got a 2002 monte hs/ss with 111200 miles. The Transmission Has hard shift and long shift issues. Should I top swap and leave it, or top swap and rebuild bottom end and get a new transmission or should I just say screw it and move on to something else? I can't seem to make up my mind. It also needs quarter panel repair and new fenders

 

Decide what you're going to with the transmission first. No use top swapping if you're not going to fix the transmission.

 

Fixing trans is first on the list. They if you wanna top swap it go ahead. I wouldn't mess with the bottom end at all if it were me.

 

You should also check how much rust it has and if it would be worth to keep it going. But yes you should fix the transmission before the top swap if you keep it.

 

Make it a derby car, sounds like your tired of your Monte.
