Default Tire Roar or hubs

I have an 05 monte carlo with the 3.4L. I am hearing roaring noise on both sides in the back. I have goodyear tires in the back and I am wondering if this is a common problem in the montes, hubs going out or just the tires roaring. Have had goodyears before on another car and they roared but this was several years ago. I hear no roar from the front area.

I am having the same problem with my wifes monte. I jacked up the car and checked to see if there was any play in the hubs and they seem fine. I even noticed some tire wear on the inside edges of the rear tires. Mine sounds like offroad tires on a 4x4. Kind of a "hum" and "howl" at the same time. Viper- Are you having tire wear problems also? If you find any solution please let me know. I'm planning to talk to a friend who is a GM tech in a week or 2 so I'll post what I find out as well.

i'd say jack it up check for play...see how easily it spins...posibly try rotation the tires to see if the "roar" changes....i'd also say take your havnd and go around the tire in all area's see if

you feel any uneven spots such as cupping, feathering, low spots...may need a 4 wheel alignment...

Sounds like bad wheel bearings to me! It's common for them to make a "roaring" sound that people mistake as "tire noise" when they're going bad.

The roaring is also common with tires that have not been rotated and have started cupping... If thats the case the only thing to do is get new tires.

I cant see the rear hubs both wearing out before your front ones. If your tires are different front to back try putting your rear wheels on the front and the front on the back. While you have the car jacked up, check for play in the hubs. If when you drive it afterwards, the sound moves to the front, you know its your tires.
