For Those Like Me Who Are On A Budget

Understood.
Unfortunately, buying the enclosed version or adding piping (the filter is already very close to the spot where a pipe would go, and I wonder how much of an improvement in perf you would get restricting air plow thru a small tube like the stock box did) is the antithesis of ballin on a budget.
Heck if $ was no issue, Id send her off to Chip Foose for bodywork, and then resurrect Don Yenko to work on the powertrain. Now THAT would be a noticeable improvement.
P.S. - FOR SHAME on he who changed my thread title! If you dont like Nappy Roots, thats fine, but dont kill the lyrics.

The filter is a monster. Its at least twice the size of the opening that the stock box breathed thru. The best I could do was aim the filter directly at said opening with about a 1" space from the lip that restricts further movement.

I know that aftermarket "cold air intakes" will flow more air, but how is the air any "colder"? The factory intake on my 99 Monte pulls air through a tube thats located in a hole in the sheet metal located near the drivers side headlight. This location is ahead of the engine and ahead of the radiator. It's pulling in regular, old outside air - not heated in any way prior to going into the housing and through the filter. So, at least in the case of my car, the air is no colder, there's just more of it available. Right?

The air inside our wizaird CAI is only a few degrees above outside air temp when the car is moving. Last time I went on a drive the outside air was 75 degrees and the IAT reading never went higher then 80 as long as I was moving. Most true CAI are insulated and enclosed while the factory air box is not insulated With a HAI its always gonna be well over 100 degrees, moving or not, when the engine is up to temperature

More than the loss of power from a heat-soaked IAT
