Default Shift kit install pics

Hey guys,

Here are some pics of this past weekends shift kit install. I also changed out the dexcool antifreeze, the upper motor mounts with all new poly bushings, and put in dextron VI trans fluid. ( that was more expensive than I thought.)

The motor mount bushings make it "feel" stiffer with a little steering wheel vibration in park, and a little shake when you crank it. Nothing bad, just different. The shift kit makes a noticeable difference in (appropriately) how it shifts. It seems to hold gears longer under normal throttle conditions and the feel under throttle is nice, without jerking the dash off either way.

I say this project is a success. I'm happy with it anyway.

what brand shift kit did you install? what "firmness setting" did you use? you should give us an update on how you feel about the kit a month or two down the road.

it's from ZZperformacne Jeff.... it's only $30 to buy it and a couple hours to install.... it would cost a bit more if you have a transmission shop do it.

ok thanks. i didn't know if it was a zzp kit, thrasher, etc. i picked up a thrasher kit off ebay a while ago for dirt cheap and have been debating putting it in. i'm sure the results of the zzp are close to the same as the thrasher.

so do these shift kits provide firmer shifts just when you get into the throttle a ways or does it shift hard when you're really easy on the throttle too? i just don't want a super hard shift when i'm accelerating nice and easy down a city street when i'm doing 35-45mph. but if i get into the gas pretty good or WOT, then i would like a firm shift.

Once a firm shift, always a firm shift.

OK,

It's a Thasher kit, I went medium firmness, and was really easy to do. I can't really give you a time, because we weren't in any hurry anyway. It takes most of an hour to pick mine up at my buddy's shop.

So far the feel is nice. I also changed out all the upper motor mount bushings which makes the whole thing feel stiffer. The shift kit seems to hold the gears a little longer than stock, with a nice pull when it shifts. Hardly noticeable easy, normal driving....a little more pronounced under throttle. But not even close to dashboard jarring in either case.

Thus far I'm happy with the addition.

Cheers,

yeah i knew they're pretty easy to install so i'm not worried about that. just needed an idea of what firmness setting to go with and how it felt. now i know what to expect. thanks for the info.
