Soon, NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fans will be able to cruise Main Street in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo similar to that driven by the Winston Cup Series' four-time champion. The limited-production vehicle is a 2003 Monte Carlo SS Jeff Gordon Signature Edition, based on a well-equipped Monte Carlo SS with the High Sport appearance package. Its striking exterior scheme includes a new-for-'03 Superior Blue color, highlighted by Galaxy Silver grounds effects, diamond-cut cast aluminum wheels and dual stainless steel exhaust tips.

Adding to the exterior character are Galaxy Silver flame decals on the hood, front fenders and doors. "And Jeff Gordon's on-track performance has contributed greatly to our success. This new Signature Edition, bringing together these two great names, will certainly be distinctive when it hits the street.""I've been blessed with many great opportunities in life," says Gordon. "Just to have Chevrolet consider a Signature Edition affiliated with me is honor in itself. But knowing that it will go into actual production is almost unbelievable."[b]Production will begin in January 2003 and run until April 2003. Volume will be limited to 2424 units and will be available through select Chevrolet dealers in the U.S. and Canada with high-volume Monte Carlo sales. Is your Monte Carlo a Future Classic ?[:-]There's no record of people making predictions about "the horse of the future", but it seems that automotive fortune-telling was born the day after the first primitive car rolled out of its inventor's barn. One of the earliest predictions comes from Thomas Edison. The year was 1895, when only 500 or so cars were registered in the United States. But Edison confidently said, "it is only a question of a short time when the carriages and trucks in every large city will be run with motors." Of course, he was planning on those motors being electric. Scientific American was equally optimistic about the abilities of the automobile to benefit mankind, stating in 1899 that city streets of the near future would be rendered "...clean, dust-free and odorless, with light rubber-tired vehicles moving swiftly and noiselessly over their smooth expanse..." Henry Ford, never one to hesitate in offering his opinion to the world, spoke to reporters in 1936 of future cars that would use "synthetic materials to replace heavy metal parts." While the 1953 Corvette was only the first of many automobiles to prove him right, Ford was less on target with his comments in 1946 about the Volkswagen. He thought the car uncommonly small, extremely ugly and absolutely unsellable. Good observations but an awfully wrong conclusion--over 20 million "bugs" were eventually manufactured. As usual, nobody was listening in Detroit when a Fortune magazine article of 1942 made a pretty good try at describing the car of the future: "...what nonsense it is to use...two tons of gas-eating road-hammering machinery to haul one 160-pound man around. They say right now they can design a car that weighs a third to half less than our 1942 models, rides on air, and goes half again as far on a gallon of gas, and yet offers more space and comfort." Another rational voice in the 1940s was aviation engineer William B. Stout, who saw cars of the next twenty years powered by fuel-injected, air-cooled engines. His dream would have been realized in the 1968 VW Squareback, had he not added, "tires will automatically adjust pressure...the steering wheel will disappear, replaced by a steering lever. Windshields will be of double glass and heated, eliminating windshield wipers. Doors will be sliding instead of hinged." Perhaps Stout was looking way into the future? But it would be hard to beat Car Life's 1954 prediction on the forthcoming atomic car: "Its length will run between 25 and 30 feet, and its weight will be at least ten tons. Its horsepower will be between 1,000 and 2,000. It will cruise at speeds of 150 miles per hour and capable of attaining 500 miles per hour." What will it be worth in twenty years ? $250,000

Allstate 400 At The Brickyard
Brickyard 400 Pace Cars & Drivers Featuring the Chevrolet Awesome `Monte Carlo Photos & Descriptions
2006

"We're excited to have the 505-hp Corvette Z06 back at the world-famous Brickyard speedway as the Allstate 400 pace car," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "The Corvette is so racing-ready that all we do is add strobe lights, racing safety belts and a fun paint scheme and it's ready to pound the bricks at up to 198 mph."
While all Corvettes are considered high-performance machines, the Corvette Z06 stands out among its counterparts. It is the fastest vehicle ever offered by Chevrolet and General Motors. With 505 horsepower (377 kw) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm) from its 7.0L all-aluminum, racing-inspired engine, the Corvette Z06 leaps from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 198 mph. It also differs from other production Corvette models with extensive use of lightweight materials, including carbon fiber front fenders and a chassis comprised of aluminum and magnesium. A racing-ready suspension and large, 18-inch front wheels and 19-inch rear wheels help keep it glued to the tarmac.
Nor does the car require drivetrain modifications to satisfy its role in front of the racing pack. With a dry-sump lubrication system, the Z06's engine is equipped to handle the highest cornering forces when traveling around Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 12-degree banked turns. In the car's official capacity, it is outfitted with a variety of safety equipment and highly-visible strobe lights - but is still mechanically identical to those available at Chevrolet dealerships.
The Corvette Z06 for the Allstate 400 wears a unique paint scheme, inspired by an asymmetrical theme that conveys an "empathic sense of motion," according to Kip Wasenko, the pace car designer. "We've used the new sixth-generation Corvette to pace several races recently and its shape is so iconic that we're comfortable getting a little more abstract and artistic with the pace car theme and not sticking to a design that follows the lines of the car," Wasenko said. The Corvette Z06 features broad stripes of yellow, white and blue which complement the Allstate 400 logo and resemble banners that accentuate the car's sense of speed.

2005

Television spokesperson and actor Dennis Haysbert is the grand marshal of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Haysbert will participate in pre-race activities, including a ceremonial parade lap, and will wave the green flag to signal the start of the 12th running of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard
Haysbert is perhaps best known as President David Palmer from the critically acclaimed, award-winning FOX television drama "24" In 2003, his performance in the show earned Haysbert Golden Globe Award, NAACP Image Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Haysbert made his feature film debut in 1989, portraying baseball player Pedro Cerrano in the sports comedy hit "Major League" and has starred in other films, including "Heat" (1995) and "Waiting to Exhale" (1995). Haysbert next will star in his own series, "The Unit," for CBS.
Haysbert also is a spokesperson for Allstate Insurance Company and has appeared in commercials for the insurance company since 2003.

For Sale $50,0002002 Chevy Monte Carlo "#8 Dale Earnhardt Jr" Description [b]This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own possibly the most popular car skins in recent NASCAR history. It is an AUTHENTIC #8 Dale Earnhardt Jr. 2002 Monte Carlo skin. This skin is the REAL DEAL, straight from the track. Note this is a camera car skin. The skin was placed over a stock or race car chassis for display purposes and has an engine and transmission with some official components. Several of the parts in the engine are stamped DEI. Note this is NOT a DEI car chassis but still an unbelievable find. The engine has over $10,000 of braided steel. The No. 8 Chevrolet driven by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was a contender practically every week in 2002. What a rare piece of history! History: The history of the number 8 and its significance to the legendary Earnhardt family can be traced back to the early days of NASCAR. Once a number donned by Ralph Earnhardt, the number 8 has found a home with his grandson Dale Earnhardt Jr. This is your chance to own a 100% authentic #8 Budweiser Chevy Monte Carlo driven by Dale Jr. in 2002. While this car posted modest finishes in Rockingham at North Carolina Speedway, Jr. was able to provide a show for fans at Phoenix International Speedway. After the 26th place showing in the Subway 400 and the 22nd place in the Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400, there was something left to prove. In Phoenix, Dale Jr. ran out of gas while leading. After 39 laps of battling for positions, this car was brought to a 5th place finish. Dale Earnhardt is the most popular driver in NASCAR according to nascar.com. He is a television personality, appears in videos, magazines and has authored books. He is a third-generation driver of one of the most famous racing families in NASCAR history. This is your chance to own a piece of racing and NASCAR history and an excellent investment. Look at what other car skins and memorabilia with race history bring after 20-30 years. It would make an excellent addition to that NASCAR fan. No trailer is included. You can be the only person on your block with something like this. This will turn you into an instant local celebrity! Rest assured, we are legit and the car can be viewed by appointment. It is a breathtaking site to say the least. The purchaser of this car agrees to sign a bill of sale/disclaimer that releases the current owner of any liability in the event of injury and that the car is sold as-is-as-shown without warranty and all sales are final. Remember, this is a legit skin (these were removed and sold after every race I am told) on a stock car chassis with incorrect interior. As this is a race car, it will be sold with a bill of sale only as there is no title and it is NOT street legal. Given the high HP, it is a dangerous vehicle for professional use only and should be treated with respect. We are NOT responsible for damage caused by this vehicle or any injury when using this vehicle. It should be considered for display or show purposes ONLY. In addition, any research on this vehicle should be done PRIOR to bidding. This car would be a great addition to anyone's collection of sports, classic or muscle cars. Once sold, all sales are final. Please know what you are buying. We are not NASCAR experts and not responsible for any small item left out of the description or serial number, equipment or other discrepancies. Remember it is as-is-where-is and to do your homework, study the photos and data, and know these cars be
