are you talking along the rocker panel?
if this is the case do it in silver in vinl. Then if they ask what your were doign you cna say chanign the color. LOL
but you could also look in to getitng a body kit for it and it would cover it also.
the other options are to sand it smooth with as high of grit as you can get away with. and then go higher till you get it real smooth. but watch out so you dont end up with it becoming a low spot on it .
then you could take jus tthat peice in and see if they can shoot it when they do another black car and get it done.
If you talk with them some will throw it in with another paint job so you wont have to pay for the whole pot of paint.

If you run your fingernail across the scratch can you feel the scratch?

If you can then you know it's deep enough to use courser grit sand paper. I sure wouldn't use an 80 grit or lower (like 50) on the plastic as you could damage the plastic real fast. Start with say a 150 grit paper. See how it goes for a few minutes. Do not press down hard on the paper.

If the scratch is barely caught by your fingernail try a 320 paper or finer (like a 400 or 600 grit).

Sometimes you can get lucky. A 1,000 grit paper will do the job. 1,000 grit paper and little water will remove more paint then you realize in a few minutes. And a 2.500 grit paper will put a shine on painted piece like a mirror. Just sand with the 2,500 grit with water, wipe the residue off the use a car polish (Meguair's makes a good one) and the paint will shine like tomorrow's sun.

One thing to remember. Any part of this takes some elbow grease.

and as for the body piece thats scraped up a little, a good body shop should be able to fix it up without having to buy another one and it may work out to be cheaper

You can get one at the dealer or junkyard. It is held on by clips and those things will break off when you remove them. I know they are about $90 bucks at the dealer.

should look fine .
just wont have the same shine to it as the vinal will never have the same shine as paint will
so if you were ot go to a diffrent color then it would not be as noticabel. i wouldnt think
