thanks for your reply I have been off the forums a while I agree probably just the gaskets leaking I am avoiding changing them for now I had transmission issues with my previous Monte when did yours go?

Chevy made it confusing. The owners manual on my 2003 Monte Carlo SS advised using 10W30, but if the outside temperature was expected to dip below 60°F then 5W30 could be used. But if the temperature was expected to be below 32°F, then 5W30 should be used. Something like that. But 95% of the oil change places, including Chevy dealers, would put 5W30 in no matter what time of year it was even in the hottest months.
