I have a 91 Lumina with a 3.1L in her
she has 238,000 miles on her...... It has never had an engine nor a trans in her.
I have put two water pumps on it (thats when I flush the cooling system out).
I change the oil in it between 6,000 to 7,000 miles.
NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THIS ENGINE OTHER THEN WATER PUMPS, HEATER AND RADIATOR HOSES.....

IF YOU ALL THINK THAT TODAYS OIL IS WORSE THEN WHAT THE OIL WAS IN THE 50'S AND 60'S WHERE THE CAR MANUAL STATES 7500 MILES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES YOU ALL ARE JUST KIDDING YOURSELFS AND SPENDING MONEY THAT YOU DONT NEED TOO......

One of the reasons why an oil company went to changing the oil every 3,000 miles was because that oil company's oil was caking up the insides of engines. I DONT HAVE TO GIVE THE NAME OF THAT COMPANY BUT MANY OF US KNOW WHO IT IS.

Most conventionalmotor oils are asphalt based. This is due to the place the crude oil is originally from.Oils that are made with crude from Pennsylvania are supposedly parrifin or wax based. It is this wax that will quiet and smooth an engine, but eventually it will cake up inside the engine.I have seen the inside of valve covers from cars that had regular oil changes with up to 1/4 inch of hard buildup, almost looks like old undercoating, due to this.

Sounds like we're talking about both brand "P" and brand "Q."

I knew someone who managed a Chief's which is now AutoZone. He seemed to be a great expert on oil.

Heinformed me that the Chief's brand of oil was just repackaged Valvoline. In those days, theChiefs's cost .69-.99 while theValvo was $2.

Ran for years on Chief's brand with no problems. I wonderwho packages AutoZone's oil

Again it's just cheap insurance to me. If you want to follow the computer and go to 7500 miles or so, so be it. Just don't complain IF the motor ever fails. I must just be '****' about maintenance.
