yeah, I only use Mobil 1 - and I get it changed about every 5000-6000 miles... my wife takes her Equinox in around every 3000 miles, and I know I get one oil change to her two...

I just got back from a 3500 mile round trip in my 07 SS and the oil level is fine, and the colour on the dipstick is a clean and clear as would be new stuff. Oddly, within a few days of being home, I get a call from the dealer, reminding me that the car is almost due for it's first service. I asked him if he was nuts. I only had the car for 2 months.

Trying to generate business is my guess. 5000 - 6000 miles in my opinion should be fine.

ORIGINAL: wiz kidd

it would be too expensive to change your oil every 3000 miles if your doing synthetic oil ....5000 miles is safe for me
Same here, I use synthetic, and I change my oil every 5000 miles

Oil threads always seem to get personal and argumentative. Most of the forums I am in try to ignore oil threads. It is almost like arguing which toilet paper or condem, or beer is best.

Do your internet research, talk to mechanics, read the car mags and come to your own conclusion.

Do whatever makes you confortable.

We all love our Monte's and would never do anything we thought would hurt them.

Love,
Grandpa

You guys are going to think I've lost it. But.................... I change oilonce ayear.

Now that I've said that let me explain.

Owning your very own fleet has it's pros and cons. Pros such as HEY.... you own your "own" Fleet. Cons in that it can be expensive.

I change the oil in my Classics once a year. Of course I don't drive the cars daily or a lot of miles. Maybe 2,000 total miles out of 4 cars per year.

Easy everyone, I just asked mileage thoughts. I'm not trying to start another oil thread. I know better than that. I had it in my head to drop it at 3k, but the dealer said different, so I just wanted opinions from there. I haven't actually taken the time to read thru the manual in depth, need to tho. I did drop the oil at 150 miles. Sorry, old habit from building engines years ago. I do it with EVERYTHING I buy new. Force of habit. You should have SEEN how dirty the oil was, including all the shiney metal in the oil! Glad I did, evident the filter couldn't catch it all.

I don't have my Monte manual in my hands, but I do have my 2001 Blazer manual. It give 2 options. If you make 5-10 mile trips mainly especially where temperatures are below freezing, most trips have extensive idling, operate offroad/dusty conditions, tow a trailer, or use for a delivery app, police, taxi etc. If you any of these is true, then change every 3000 miles.

If none of those are true, then oil and filter every 7500 or 12 months.

Basically if you do alot of city driving, or like me take the highway 6 miles to work - then change every 3000.

If like in 2000LS's case you can go 7500 assuming he doesn't idle to long on the way to work in traffic.

That's what I was saying 04 intimidator about the two schedules which about 90% or MORE of most people fall into, so that's every 3k miles or 3 months.

I use Mobil 1 oil & a Mobil 1 oil filter and STILL change at 3K never more! Cheap insurance for a great motor.

My last car: I changed the oil every 2,000 - 2,200 miles and the head gasket failed at 87,000 miles with routine cooling system maintenance. I just don't see the point of running Mobil 1 with a std oil change @ 3,000 miles.GM uses inferior gasket designs and I not wasting any more money on oil change for a motor than will barely make it to 100,000 miles with city driving. Castrol dino and an AC delco or Wix oil filter works for me.
