Default Noob questions

i just bought my 2000 monte carlo ss. It has an alarm on it i assume. when i use the power door locks inside the car it seems to arm it. The key then disarms it when i unlock the car. My question is do they have remotes that work the alarm? I am pretty sure i can just buy a replacement remote and program it but i want to make sure before i buy a new remote.

I also have no door chime when the door opens and sometimes the dome light doesnt come on. It does work but not when i open the door??? Any ideas?

There is a little button in the door jam (not the one that catches, but the one where the hinges are bolted up) that is released when you open the door... that button could have gone bad and is thus causing your dome light not to come on when you open the door. Is the alarm an aftermarket? And as far as I know, when you lock the doors, the alarm is automatically armed. Plus, your remotes battery could be dead. Auto Zone has these little things that can check hte battery and replace it if necessary.

you should be able to get one off ebay and then either program it yourself or have some program it for you

They're easy to program if you have the stock radio.. you hold the tune button for 5 seconds with the radio off and key in on position, a chirp comes up, you then use the seek button to go to FOB program, press the tune button, and then I can't remember which button you press on the key fob, but you hold a button until it chirps and you are good to go!
