My Plan For Modifications
#21
I had heard that putting headers on a N/A set up is a waste of money, and will actually hurt your low end torque more than it's worth for the high end HP gain. I saw a youtube video of a 2002 Monte Carlo SS with K&N CAI, Hypertech power programmer, flowmaster cat-back exhaust, and SLP headers. He did a 0-60 run in 8.0 seconds. That's slower than the car records with stock parts, and he'd invested probably over $1,000 in parts and labor. I'm thinking the best performance upgrades on a N/A set up are a GT Camshaft from ZZP, 2.5in downpipe, ported exhaust manifold, and either a CAI or HV TB along with a good set of FWD tires for launching.

What it all comes down to is how much you wanna spend and how far you wanna . You really need to think about it hard. A lot of mods are gonna have to be sold if down the road you decide to go faster . You could have someone do the top swap for you and a cam install. That right there will be about 1300 in parts for top swap , cam and springs and then probably 500 for install . You could buy a used l67 for about 1300 and then have it .
But i think the top swap is a good idea, hold off on the cam and then get 1.9 rockers and 105 springs . Then a good idea would be headers . Then next i would say intercooler and then probably stop there for a while .
top swap 500-700 for parts
1.9s and springs 350 ish
ssac header or used togs 400-550 , ssacs will need a new flex welded in
buy a used stage 2 ic from clubgp 600 with everything -800 depending on how it looks

I have to agree with the above posters. With the mods listed you are not going to get the gains you expect. Also with a pcm tune you will need to run premium fuel as well. I have the hypertech power programmer and it requires premium fuel. I would either do an hv3 insert and modded rockers or go with a top swap to super charged.
