Still haven't gotten my recall. Maybe GM sent it to my old address. Oh well. I don't plan on taking my ignition key off my keychain anyway.

If you do get the plastic insert in your key and don't like it, just drill it out. In my opinion, the plastic insert is a cop out on GM's part. They can't afford to properly take care of the real problem. So they're throwing cheap Band-Aid solutions at us until our cars end up in the junk yard.

The real problem is the passlock system in our cars, and many of GM's cars, is a bad design. To properly take care of the problem, GM would have to retrofit every GM car with that style passlock ignition switch with a different design. But that would put GM back into bankruptcy.

The problem is not our key chains being too heavy. If the weight of our keychains was really to blame, every single car on the road would be having problems. No matter what brand or model.

Am I ranting right now? Yes, I am. But it's because I've paid over $2500.00 out of my pocket to GM because of passlock problems in my Monte since 2010. GM can keep their stupid plastic key insert. Give me my $2500.00 back.

For the record... The dealerships are not to blame for all this. They're stuck in the middle. Taking orders from GM, and having to listen to angry customers.

Got my recall notice today. I am the second owner of mine. It's stupid. Who hangs 20lbs of junk off their key ring anyway ? All I have is the remote and two very small keys for my car cover lock. Oh well...

Since I got mine, I was curious so i started monte up and was able to pull the key out of the ignition and keep going. So technically I have no weight hanging on mine. I also only have on my key chain, car key, factory remote , 2 house keys (mine & boyfriends) & work desk key.
As others have stated this is a copout of GM & they should fix the issue right

I got my Recall letter Saturday. And I have the same issue as Bellyisis. I can start Ol Yella, and pull the key out with no force while the ignition is in the On position. I have my 2 house keys and my remote on the ring and although the keys have fallen to the floor a couple of times in the last 29 months, it have never turned itself back.
I am hooked on GM vehicles, Dodge is second, and I believe that is what GM depends on. That despite the fact that Real issues occur that they will not fix, we will continue to buy their products because in our minds they are the best. And I guess they are right. But Dang Mr. GM, keep me happy with the Product that I have, then maybe I will not only keep that one going, but I will be more willing to spend my Hard earned $$$ on your latest and greatest car.
Until I see the Key issue happen, I'm just going to keep on driving Ol Yella, Key as is!
