and as will bad grounds. all of which could have caused the issue then. i will never really know. but i do know that i did have problems with my ignition last year. as long as i keep the plastic piece off i dont have problems. so its a good thing i know my "clicks" when turning the key

Well the mystery is solved. They found a short or as they put it an open circuit in the wire harness. Got the car back and so far so good. I did talk to GM and they said we should expect letters by the end of July for the recall. She said they will just be giving us new keys.

Just got my recall letter... I want them to add a "lost key" clause.. and free towing if I have to keep the ignition key all by itself.. They say that even the key fob has to be removed! They need to replace the ignition switch, not just isolate the key. This so-called repair method is laughable

yea i had brought my monte in a few years back when the steering column issue was recalled...few months after i felt the throbbing again and haven't fixed it since because i could care less, the power steering is fine so well enough is left alone.

I just read the ignition recall. This is funny! So your keys are too heavy for the switch, the switch is defective, it does not lock into to On position. The fix, put a plastic cover on the key so you can't hang it on a ring with the rest of your keys. That way, GM only spends $0.07 per car, and you get to have a greater opportunity to Loose Your Key.
The proper fix would be to replace the ignition switch, but that would cost GM way too much. But if you loose your key, don't fret, with your Vin number, GM can cut you a replacement key for only $26. They make a 187% profit on a recall Jerry Rig job that did not fix the problem and cause you to loose your key!
I love my Ol Yella, but I swear my next car is going to be a Dodge Challenger!
Why no recall on the Body Control Module, The upper and Lower intake gaskets, the coolant elbows, the speed sensor harness, I'll tell you, if they can't find a way to make $$$ off of your car, then they ain't interested in you.
I do need a new ignition switch. But I'll just buy one and install it myself. My key is new, works fine, last a long time!

It's an insult to customers. Hate to sound sexist here (this is sad humor), but, if the GM chairman didn't carry a purse, where sooo many loose items can be kept for indefinite periods of time, sometimes decades..... and never get lost, would the recall repair be different.... I sent a copy of the recall letter to the local news. Once they stop laughing, they should realize that all GM is doing is putting all future responsibility on the customer. Who made the switch and are they at all responsible in this?

I got a recall notice on my 03 Monte SS today to replace the ignition switch but I’ve never had anything but the key its self in the ignition (I have a 3rd key) because I didn’t want the dash scratched up. I don’t think my will rotate to the off position by its self I’ve tried it and it does take a little effort to turn. I don’t trust the local Chevy dealer to touch my car. As of now I have no rattles in my dash and I’m the original owner. I’ve taken good care of my car since day one and am afraid they’ll do more harm than good.

Got a notice in the mail today for my 01 ss. Anyone confirm what they actually to to "fix" the "issue"? Trying to figure out if I should take it in or not even worry about it.
