Monte Carlo Competition
#23
Silver,
I agree that more people went toward the GXP/GTP and even Impala's because they are 4-door cars, and they historically sell better. I'm simply saying that I don't think they are competition to the Monte Carlo at all. Why would GM make a car that would compete against another one of it's cars? That doesn't make sense.

change to L32 series lll
hot forged powdered metal connecting rods /piston
gen. 5 blower
rated 270 at the crank
bigger valves in the heads
on the other hand the 04-05 monte carlo supercharged didn't have the same options as the 04+ gtp. they still using the series ll motor like the 97-03 gtp. the motor is the same L67 as the 97-03 gtp and 97-04 buick regal. basically chevy put all the left over L67 motor in the 04-05 monte that are supercharged instead of up grading it like the 04+ gtp.
my question to you is why did pontiac changed their engine setup on the 04+ and why did chevy all of the sudden decide to go supercharged on some of the 04-05 monte carlo? how come they didn't put any supercharged motor on the 00-03? this sound like competitor to me between pontiac and chevy.

Both cars are directed at a different demographic of car shopper, hence why I don' think GM would compete within itself. I don't know a single person who is looking for a sedan that would consider buying a coupe and vise versa.
It's like saying the Mercury Milan competes with the Ford Fusion. It doesn't. They're the same car, with different clothes, and they appeal to different car buyers.
OK, so the GXP/GTP and Monte Carlo are different cars, not the exact same. My guess is that the Pontiac you are referring to was in-line for the newer features, while the 6th gen Monte Carlo was a new design and didn't need additional changes yet. I'm just throwing out ideas though. I could be wrong.

I touched on a sensitive subject I guess. lol!
So far, I think the best competitors are:
Ford Mustang
Nissan Altima coupe
Honda Accord coupe
They're have similar specs and pricing.
