Default Major problems!!!!

Hello everyone,
I've had my 03 SS for just over a year now and haven't had any problems.... up until now. I was driving yesterday when i noticed smoke coming from under my heated seat, I pulled over and got out to look at it and to my horror the seat was on fire, Literally!!! I got out but the interior is done for, and the insurance adjuster said it was probably a mechanical issue. Has anyone heard of this happening before? Also since the seat caught fire, wouldn't that be a electrical issue that originally caused the fire, not mechanical?? Anyway, just trying to get some answers so I can deal with the insurance company.

Do you have heated seats? Were they on at the time? Any recent electrical work on the car? Stereo... Neons... Anything like that? If the fuse for your power/heated seats were removed and replaced with a differently rated fuse, there is HUGE potential for fire if there is a short. Good luck. Keep us informed.

Electrical/mechanical.... It's probably the same check box on an insurance form. That sucks though.... Are you getting it fixed (interior swap)?

they were factory heated seats, and off at the time. I hadn't done any mods inside yet but was planning on it. They want to put a brand new interior in it, but then went to look at it with the adjuster today and he connected the battery to get the mileage and what not. I turned the key to the acc position and there were no lights, or anything on the dash, overhead console, radio etc. I'm thinking that the electrical system inside is now going to have to be replaced as well. Any thoughts on this??
