Default Keyfob works irradically

Help--my 2000 Monte SS often does not lock or unlock using the 4 button wireless keyfob. Have two--both have new batteries and both have been programmed via my Monte radio. Once reprogrammed they work fine for a day--then begin to lock or unlock inconsistently. Seems that pressing a command near passenger headlight sometimes works when other areas near car don't. Also, alarm always works. Help!

Hi Alan. Had you not mentioned you already changed the batteries, I'd say it sounds like the batteries are low. Is it possible the battery you put in might have sat around for a long time?

Hopefully others will chime in with similar experiences.

I'd agree with this

also, what's the age on the fobs? the older they get the less the buttons work, it's the rubber that wears, when i got new fobs the rubber made it work 10x better before, and that was on the same stock battery

One of mine had a similar problem and one of the solder joints on the battery contact was broken. I re-soldered it and it's been fine since.

I had the same problem.

AND I THREW IT ON THE GROUND!!

No really, I did. My girlfriend gave me a pretty weird look, considering how nice it looked from me painting it.

Could try taking it apart, clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and inspect the solder connections in it.
