Default Insurance on 87 SS

Im new to the forum, but i will be around picking your brains for ideas to improve the few flaws in the 87 SS im picking up tonight.

A little about the car. it will need paint due to 2 dime size spots of surface rust near the radio antenna. other than that the exterior is in great shape.(no rust at all) it has t-tops and needs new seal (no big deal), it has 140,000 miles, not the original owner, but has been in his family since brand new, unmolested original 305 HO runs strong, at 100,000 head gasket and rings were replaced. everything else about the car is clean. stored every winter.

My question has to do with insurance, my wife and myself have dreamed about this style SS for 16 years, and it is in such good condition for being a Michigan car. I need to give the insurance company an estimated value of this car for them to insure. To me the car is priceless, lol, any help will be greatly appreciated. I will try and get a couple pics up here when i get it home.

Thanks again for any help

Are you allowed to put it up for auction with a really high reserve and see how high the bids go up, and then that's how much someone would pay for it and that could be a set value?

Search the net for other '87 SS Montes. See what they are listed for.

Two things that are wrong with doing this is,
1. You can't see the car in person. So you have no clue if they are equal to, orbetter or worse then your car is.
2. EVERYONE thinks their car is worth the most money.

But doing this will give you a ballpark idea what your car is worth.

I know I would not get regular auto insurance on the car. Cause if it get's in the unforseen accident the other ins involved will tell you a 1987 SS Monte is worth $100. Then you either get to accept their off or start the fighting.

When I got my '86 Monte insured with J.C. Taylor they asked what I thought it would take to replace the car in the event of a total loss? That's what they based my car's value at.

I believe Haggarty and possibly Grundy insurances do similar. It's called Agreed Value Insurance.
