Default Humming Noise from Car and loose wheel

I have an 03 Monte SS. I am getting a humming sound from the front drivers side. It increases as i go faster. I jacked the car up and the wheel was loose (would wobble from side to side). I tried to tighten the lug nuts up, but they were tight. Do I have a bad wheel bearing assembly? I looked at my CV axle and I had a small about of grease coming out from the top of boot where it hooks into the transmission. I didn't know if the wheel bearing was causing enough vibration to hurt the CV axle. I do not have any clunking when turning. Just didn't know if I should replace both or just change the wheel bearing and go from there?

Thanks,

Sounds like the wheel bearing is giving up the ghost on your Monte. The CV axle would have the clicking sound you referred to.

Seems like unless you buy the Timken or the AC Delco brand wheel bearings you may once again experience a failed bearing relatively soon. They cost a fair amount more, but you get what you pay for.

Yea sounds like a wheel bearing is the main issue. If the axle is leaking grease you either need a new axle or replace the axle boots
