I am at 146,xxx right now. As of latley not a lot of major things besides the leaking oil but that has been happening since I had it at 65,000 miles. It is leaking tranny oil pretty bad and is going to the shop today to see what is up with that. The transmission is only about three years old. These transmission were never very strong like the 3.8 they put in them.

Default Cat residual problems

Hey AHart 87,

Be careful if its the cat and get it fixed quick.

I let mine drag on for a couple months at subpar performance but the heat build up helped melt my Upper Intake where the EGR sent overly hot air back into the intake. It's expensive but do it imho

Update: I'm at 115600 around 4k on trans 71 on engine. I drove the car 26k since I had it back in 2012 of October. And according to my records I haven't changed the fuel filter since then

bossross,

My 02 just did the same in May. I never did get the new cat from GM and paid the price. Melted a hole in the UIM right above the EGR stove pipe. And this was a somewhat new UIM that I replaced 2 years ago for the infamous coolant leak.

I just changed the spark plugs & wires in mine. What a giant PITA. They still had the original plugs in and I'm nearing 100K. The boots were on there real good, and of course one of the rear ones ripped. Tons of fun.

2001 SS - we're at 112K. Previous owner had the trans rebuilt. Runs well, but still chasing electrical gremlins.

02 Monte Carlo SS. Presently has 192K miles. Best car ever. Most work done by myself. New wheel hubs 189K miles by Pep Boys, Catalytic Converter 163K, drive axles 156K miles by Dobbs, thermostat and coolant line 135K miles. Front brakes 125K miles, Regular oil changes. Now I'm trying to figure out the traction light problem. Makes a grinding, whiring noise when taking off but stops and lights go out. Some times it stays on but resets when you turn of and restart vehicle. Seems to be more of a problem in hot weather and when turning the wheels from a stationary position. Still my dream car. Had a 73 Monte when a senior in 1975. Midnite blue metal flack with a white landau top.

My 02 was doing the same thing. Traction light would come on when turning the wheel. Then it would happen when it was wet out. Then it came on and stayed on. Here's what i did. To check if it's a wheel bearing, you have to jack up the car, remove the wheels and disconnect the wheel sensors and check for voltage. There should be 5 volts at the plug. If you have 5 volts at each plug then a wheel hub is bad. I took two small wires, inserted them in the plug, and checked with an voltmeter. I found my front passenger side was dead, so that meant a wire was broken in the harness going to the wheel. I peeled back the insulation until I found the break, repaired it with a heat shrink butt connector and taped it up real good, and have not had a problem with it in over 2 years.
