I HAvE 154,000 MILES ON MINE...I CHANGE THE OIL REGULARLY SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 1999. 3 MONTH OR 3000 MILES....(RELIGIOUSLY) ONCE I HIT 100,000 I DECEIDED TO DO SOMETHING TO KEEP IT RUNNING LIKE NEW....I STILL GET EXCELLENT MILEAGE AND PERFORMANCE...
BUT NOW AT EVERY OIL CHANGE I USE "LUCAS" (A HIGH MILEAGE ADDITIVE)
BUT NOW AT EVERY OIL CHANGE I USE "LUCAS" (A HIGH MILEAGE ADDITIVE)
Mine, I change the oil every 3,000-5,000 miles with conventional oil, I prefer a BOSCH oil filter (but I have used Fram/AC Delco/STP from time to time). No additives (or at least nothing regular, I've used Slick50 every 50,000 miles). No high miles stuff.
My '94 Grand Am powered by a 3100 is sitting on over 214,000 miles. Runs great for it's age and mileage! Biggest thing done to it was head gaskets (I did those in '09 when it had 180,000 on it). Been a great car since I bought it in '03 with about 86,000 on it.
204,000 miles on my '03 SS. I use Quakerstate full synthetic motor oil, Peak antifreeze/coolant, Wix filters, and AC Delco Dexron VI in the transmission. All interior and exterior duties are covered exclusively with Meguiar's products.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!

204,000 plus on the clock. I use Wix filters throughout, Quakerstate 10W30 Ultimate Durability synthetic motor oil. ATF blood is AC Delco Dexron VI and all interior/exterior chores are handled with Meguiar's top-shelf products.
Today, I contacted Chevrolet with my story of satisfaction and commitment to the brand. They were so impressed with my story that they started an archive file and are mailing me a certificate and letter recognizing my car. Pretty cool, huh?

I have a very simple approach to oil changes in my 2002 Monte Carlo SS: 1) I use only conventional oil; 2) I check and top off the oil every 1,500 miles; and 3) I change the oil only when the oil monitor tells me to do so, which has been around every 6,000 miles approximately. My car now has over 190,000 miles, and it still runs as nicely as the day I bought it. Actually, because it has a new, reinforced upper and lower intake manifold, it now performs even better in some regards. I generally follow the owner's manual, and I plan on pushing my vehicle to at least 250,000 miles, if not 300,000 miles. Nevertheless, I still welcome other owners' input.
I have a 2004 Monte LS and it just turned 185,000 a couple days ago. Is it old or just middle aged?
I gave it a transplant about 2-1/2 weeks ago... 2007 Leather interior ---> https://montecarloforum.com/forum/si...6th-gen-43360/
At what mileage do LIM gaskets go? How can I tell if I have metal gaskets?
Update to post:
I have been running only Valvoline since I bout the Monte and have been running Valvoline MaxLife since 117,013 miles. I am enrolled the Valvoline Engine Guarantee.

I had a quart of lucas oil stabilizer running through my motor when it overheatd to complete failure due to lack of coolant. When i mean failure i mean it bucked and smoked untill it just stalled. It seemed to happen so fast i didnt even know what was happening and my temp guage was broken...this was on a camaro with a 3.8.
After adding water and fixing the leak it purred like a kitten even after and idled perfectly. Not sure if the lucas helped but it certainly didnt hurt it.
Oh and it had 190k on it when this happened.

Never used Quaker State Defy.
I have a 2003 Monte SS stock with K/N air filter since 40k.
Mileage: 245,000
Regular Maintenance: Quaker State conventional until approximately 140,000, switched to full syn Penzoil with A/C delco filters, oil change with syn every 10k. Replaced spark plugs 3 times, wires once. Replaced trans fluid 4 times since new with the last being Valvoline Max life syn. Air filter cleaned once per year, fuel filter every 40-50k approximately.
Regular maintenance: Wheel bearings replaced at 230k, disks and breaks, car has had a few shocks with the last ones being the complete shock assembly with springs and bushings.
Irregular Maintenance: New battery a few years back, one failed water pump(shaft seal leak) at 220k, those stupid little plastic elbows that run from block to alternator/heater core (replaced 2 of those), 1 mass air flow.
D'oh! maintenance - I have had two people hit me (one parking lot, one backed into me, one slid into me)...paint jobs and bumpers.... I have hit 2 racoons, bumpers....I have hit 3 deer, front quarter panels, hoods, headlights, bumpers, etc.
Car has been really nice to me. I try to drive casually and generally try to conserve fuel. When I feel like I need to accelerate faster I take my motorcycle. Plan to have car until my wife's is payed off, or, well past 300k.
