I've been in the back on a long road trip with my wife, daughter and future son in law.
I was too tired, so I let him drive and I had a nap.
It was way more comfy that I thought it would be, I've had other friends complain about the back seat.
Same road trip but 2nd day, when I let him drive again, he was more used to it, and we could all tell he really, really liked the gas pedal.

Way back in the day the Monte was used on a couple family trips. We did a lot of driving rotations so I usually found myself in the backseat sleeping some.

In cars of today, including our Monte Carlos, it makes much more sense to use the passenger front seat reclined all the way for your action. Its still gonna be tight, even for a flyweight like myself. But much more do-able...
In the 06 Monte's the back seat has a rather large amount of space Tested it once or twice or a few more then that
