Got TERRIBLE news with my Monte today
#21
Zero money I was just starting to get my turbo fund in order, now I have a rust fixing fund I guess.
Also wedding fund, house fund, moving fund, etc.
I have been so stressed about money this past month, and this is just the icing on the cake for me... In such a terrible mood now.

Honestly, if the rust is bad enough that it failed inspection, I wouldnt put any money into fixing the rust, you will just be battling it again down the road. Unless you plan on doing a restoration quality repair (which wouldnt be worth the cost) I would just move on and try and find another clean car to work with.

At least you have the Camaro, so it's not like you are at risk of NO car. Mike, you were considering a full Monte restore, well, it may have to happen sooner then later. You get that bad boy a garage of it's own to call home and start ripping her apart. I just hope it's better luck/timing then my Camaro plans (that have been neglected).
OR, I even considered a better chassis for my Camaro project at one time. Could get a rolling chassis and build it back up with your current Monte.
Get a good look at it, talk with some body shop guys. The crappy part about Unibody cars, there is no "true" frame to speak of....

Considering previous April fools jokes, I'm still not convinced this is on the level. Nobody would believe you if you posted this tomorrow. So posting a joke a day ahead of time makes it more believable. Hmmm.
That sucks if you are on the level. How does the rear impact bar and radiator support completely rust out in less than a year? You driving through small streams or something?
I know you can't afford Amy's "Silver" Mike. Who ever gets it though, is going to own one great car!

If I get rid of the Monte, it will be because I bought another 6th gen and I will be transferring everything over, honestly.
I'm going to try to get it inspected at a smaller shop (this guy passed my Dad when the dealership said his wheel bearings weren't passable) and then seriously have a talk with a body guy. Matt, if you are willing I'll go for a long drive :p
My understanding is that a lot of the stuff is going to be hard to take pictures of, but I can try for you guys. Today has been dark and rainy, so I haven't popped under the hood yet.
I always knew there was rust, I just always assumed it was surface enough that I could eventually grind it out and POR-15 everything haha
