Default GM Ignition Switch Recall

'The recalled models include: Buick Lacrosse sedans manufactured between 2005 and 2009, Chevrolet Impala sedans with model years between 2006 and 2014, Cadillac Deville sedans from 2000 to 2005, Cadillac DTS sedans from 2007 to 2011, Buick Lucerne sedans from 2006 to 2011, Buick Regal LS and GS cars from 2005, and Chevy Monte Carlos from 2006 to 2008.'

If you own an '06/'07 your Monte qualifies for replacement of the ignition switch.

Complete story here: GM recalls 3.4 million more vehicles for key problem. Is yours on the list? (+video) - CSMonitor.com

Reading the additional attached news feed I believe some folks may end up getting a new key that is not slotted but has a small circular opening to keep it from flopping when in the ignition switch. JMHO. http://www.necn.com/06/16/14/GM-reca...blockID=868016

GM's "fix" for this one will be having dealerships add an insert to the key that closes the slot and leaves only a small hole where a key ring can be attached. In the case of this latest recall, GM says the problem is with the design of the key - it does not include replacing the ignition switch, unlike the Cobalt recall where the problem is with the mechanics of the switch.

I honestly dont even know if its worth looking into for us seventh gen owners...at least the ones that dont experience "Heavy key rings and jarring events" lol...i dont really see myself having this issue and if i ever did, id just make my key ring lighter, not really a problem i need dealer help with lol

It amazes me that this key design is all of the sudden an issue. My parents 2000 Bonneville had the same key design, so do the Grand Am's. My Monte is 8 years old and has 215K on it...never had a problem with my key. I'm not worried about this.

Mike, same thought I had. This specific key design is so widely used on various GM models and years - 2000-05 Monte Carlo as well. I've never had any issues with mine, both on my 03 and 06. I see this as more of an action by GM to show Congress they're doing something and to cover their butt moving forward.

Common sense goes out the window - don't hang 2 pounds of junk on your key ring.

As crazy as this is, don't forget the Toyota uncontrolled acceleration problem way back when.
Heck ford had a problem where cruise control units were to blame in some early 90's uncontrolled acceleration but it never got much press and I don't think it got a recall.

All the vendors have problems in products and some of it was not testing the right "human" factors.
