future Monte Carlo
mann this question sure does come up a lot lol i'm sure they'll start to make the monte again sometime. the last break they took from the monte was from 89 to 94 so thats what 5ish years? We're at year 3 so maybe in the next couple years we'll be seeing concepts for it =)
I hope GM comes out with a mid size/full size coupe (besides the Caddy - which I'm not a big fan of the design or price) in the near future. I will ONLY drive coupes so I'm going to be in trouble when I have to replace my DD. If worse comes to worse, unfortunetily (if they are still available) I will be purchasing a newer used Honda Accord coupe or a Nissan Altima coupe.
I also think part of GM's problem before was overlapping platforms and cars. Instead of having 2 or 3 models across you various brands that fit a certain category to compete with each other (especially since one is going to always lose)- its better and more cost effective to focus on making one good car for the category (vehicle size and price point). Bringing in a new car that competes at all with another on your lots could easily steal more people away from buying your other car than it does bring in new customers.
I wouldn't say having a 4 cylinder would be a disgrace- I mean there are 4 cylinder cars now that would blow away practically any stock V8 monte in the 1/4- look at the Mitsu EVO's and such. I think it wouldn't appeal to your core monte/ muscle car fans, but technology is helping make the newer smaller engines put out more power than the larger old ones with better gas mileage to boot.
lol love it.
i agree. with poniac being droped, i dont think american coupes are in style anymore. its sad. that concept monte was kinda neat, i like the way the wheels fill out the wells.
ya those 4 bangers also are pushing 1000 or more less lbs and use every possible way to get power out of them. most foriegn engines have DOHC or 24-32 valves, vvt, blah blah blah stock turbos. they have to make the engine run at its greatest from the start to get there customers. plus those cost more to make, where price and pride, are huge factors in people buying american.
also many foreign parts last a little longer, but when it comes time to fix them, they get really pricey, and you have to go to a specialist to work on it. as if mechanics didnt charge 100/hour now, foriegn car shops charge 1.5 to 2 times that amount.
im sorry people buying foriegn cars in this economy disgusts me.

i personally think that pontiac had the cooler cars over chevy. and on this whole buying foreign cars in this economy thing dont you think that some of those foreign car companies have plants and what not in the states? not to mention the dealers that employ thousands upon thousands of americans. id be surprised if half of the parts on my car arent foreign not to mention for all i know it was built in canada or mexico. everytime i pop the trunk the latch stares me right in the eyes labeled made in china. i dislike foreign cars cause theyre lame. has nothing to do with the economy. im just a american car kind of guy.
