Hey guys, its been a min, but learned somthing new, i have an 01 ss and the car came with a california smog package, not sure what all is included but i have a smog pump located in the driver side fender. Well for the third year in a row i have failed emissions because the smog pump fails every time ( being located in the fender when it rains the pump gets wet and frys) so insted of spending 400$ again i found out for around 150-200$ you can take your monte to a pcm programmer and they can delete the programs for your emission control and no matter how bad your car is running it will never fail again. At first i was cautious about doing this and afarid it would fail, but after talking to the programmer he said he does this all the time. So insted of paying 600$ for a smog pump and an egr valve. Im goin the the guy tomarrow to permanently fix my emission problems, i hope this helped anyone who has fallin victom to chevys poor design.

 

I believe that pump has a hose that connects into your rear exhaust manifold. You will need to plug that up if you remove the pump.

I just re-read the post, and he is probably just going to delete the code from the computer, not actually delete the smog pump.

I know this, because I have this same stupid pump, and I think it is going to get in the way of my turbo build so I am thinking about doing a full delete of the pump

I took mine out on both 3800s I had. They look TERRIBLE!!!

 

Both egr and smog and fully delete it so it will never read it again

 

What does this smog pump look like?

 

I'd rather yank the SMOG pump off the car and get rid of it and the extra crap it has. Not sure if the PCM needs altered to recognize the lack of SMOG pump, but that would be the better way to go if you don't need it.
