RE: - Do you `Think ?
To the original question, about a stock factory monte doing top speed for 500 miles. I think it could. Thinking about say a new 5th gen- the top speed limiter is at ~105ish. Thats really not all that quick, there are a lot of people who rock 80-90 mph all the time on the freeway around here for miles and miles. I know wind resistance goes up exponentially with speed- but another 20 mph really shouldn't require that much more throttle (you sure wouldn't be at 100% throttle the whole time- just when accelerating, I don't see it sitting at more than 30 or 40% throttle depending which engine you had.
It would definitely be hard on the suspension and stuff at that speed, but I don't see a bolt or bushing failing in only 500 miles- its not going around that track that quickly.

I think you all need to think about this what is your tach at when you cruise at 80 MPH? Like 2000 RPM yeah so when your cruising at 100 MPH you are going to be doing like 2700 RPM that is killing that engine. Do you know how often that enginge is firing in a min at 2700 RPM?!?! That is just crazy I don't care what kinda stock Monte you have your not driving away with that car running in any decent condition. Plus you can have the quickest reaction time in the world but things at 100 MPH come at you fast things like small animal pot holes and flying rocks.

All tuned-up with good tires and no issues preventing the Engine and Trans from breaking down on you and I believe you could go 100 Mph all day long. That's about what you'd expect to be doing in the right hand lane of the German Autobahn. Moving fast. Not over taxing the driveline in a severe way. Just motoring along like late for a wedding. I do believe that a Bone Stock "Anything" V-6 or V-8 would have no trouble at all.
I've had my wife's Honda Civic up to 100 Mph a couple of times and there was still plenty of room on the tach at that speed. With the additional power of a V-6 doing the work, you could get 500 Miles clocked without raising a sweat.
I'd bet on the Monte making 500 Miles at 100 Mph
Doing an additional 20 Mph over 80 isn't that hard on a car.
And, if you were to stand at the side of 95 Northbound out of Massachusetts heading into Maine, with a Radar or a Laser Clocking device ... you'd catch traffic "Cruising North" at speeds of 80 Mph and above.
I'd say it wouldn't bother the car one bit to go 100 Mph ... stop for gas and nature's call ... and get right back out-in-it would be no challenge for somebody's tightened-up Monte!

It wasn't long after that when I got picked up for 90mpg, 15 over the speedlimit. All I thought to myself was, "Atleast he didn't see me 30 miles ago..."
According to MapQuest that trip is, "915.67 miles" long, now going down there I drove to Newcastle first to spend the night and split the trip into 6 and 7 hour sections. Going back I went straight, but set cruise at 80 the whole way, took right around 12.5 hours with 3 stops for gas, grabbed a bit of food everytime I stopped, but when I'm on a trip I don't like to stop unless I have to, and meals during a trip just don't seem to be very important.
