I assumed they were done sending notices years ago at this point. Maybe they continue to chase the ones that never came in.
I still get recall notices (just last week) for engine fire and ignition key rotation. Bought new Feb 02

I believe they claim that to be one of the issues.

What happens exactly is, oil leaks out of the faulty valve covers and onto the hot exhaust manifold. That can create a small fire. Add that the fire is just below that engine cover and you have a recipe for a much worse fire. Cars that are not maintained properly will have all that leaking oil build up also making the whole situation MUCH worse.

Yes, the dealers are taking the beauty covers during the recall work. No, they will not return it. No, they do not state this anywhere nor do they tell you. I replaced mine by buying it from a person on Ebay. You can try a parts yard too. I stll haven't found the nut to hold it on as that was removed as well. It is being taken as oil on the exhaust manifold can get trapped and spread under it. You know the very thing the recall is supposed to repair. It's stealing, they are removing a part from a car I own with out my consent. GM doesn't own every car they have ever sold. They could have just added a fire suppressing piece of fabric to it. I have mine back on my car. If it ever goes to the dealer again you bet I will remove it first. GM is doing the recall on any Monte that has not been brought in.

[QUOTE=Andretti;734933]. I stll haven't found the nut to hold it on as that was removed as well.

The engine's beauty cover is held in place essentially by a piece of foam rubber. Acts like a shim that retains the cover in a metal anchor point the covers tang inserts through. I find them quite often at the junk yards, as often when the covers were taken off for one reason or another the foam piece tends to slip off and lands on top of the engine by rear valve cover. So just scrounge around all the Gm, Pontiac, Buick cars that had covers like this and you will often find one, may as well grab a couple while you are at it. I have a couple used, and a new in bag still.

Default I am missing my nut.

That is all well and good, but I am supercharged. So while I have a slot by the firewall, I also have a nut that goes on the cover in the center. I did put an extension on my oil fill from a Buick, so it isn't going anyplace. But, I do take "Dale" to car shows on occasion and I'd like to have all the pieces. My car is a replica of Earnhart Sr's Last ride in Daytona 2001.

@Andretti a little off topic, you should considering bringing your Monte to the GM Nationals in Carlisle PA. I have been going to Carlisle for many years now. It is a fun time! The event is usually in June, weekend after father's day.

@The_Maniac That sounds like an idea 💡 would be fun. Who do I contact for information?

@The_Maniac I found them online. My car is registered for 2025. Thank you for telling me about them.

So GM owns that cover? Now that is an interesting theory. Since when does a buyer not own the entire car he purchased ? Might as well ask GM to pay for all future maintenance and keep filling up the gas daily cause GM seems to own the car.
