brake rotors to thick
I have a 96 Monte that needs new front brake rotors, seems simple, so I thought.
I went to my local auto parts store and purchased a new set of rotors, nothing special, just an OEM replacement. Got the rotors installed and when installing the wheels I notice I only have about 3-1/2 threads into the lug nuts . I take everything back apart and notice that the centers, just the part over the hub, of the new rotors are about .160" thicker than the originals. I don't like the feeling of only 3-1/2 threads so I return the rotors in hopes that the "premium" brand rotors would be like the originals but they weren't. All the replacements I'm finding are 1 piece cast rotors and my originals are the composite type with a thin steel center.
My car has the original wheels, wheel studs and lugnuts. I can't be the first person to discover this problem with as popular as these cars are but no one around this area has an answer.
Has anyone seen this problem before?
