Default Brake Rotors

Well guys.....its about that time. I need new pads and rotors on the Monte. So instead of spending $5000 on labor, I am going to change them myself....with the help of a few friends. So does anyone have any tips or tricks for me? Anything to look out for? Also,I want some cross drilled rotors, so does anyone have any recommendations for rotors and pads? Thanks guys.

Personally, when I am going to upgrade, I am going to stay away from drilled rotors, as they have a tendency to crack and warp on our vehicles. A good set of powerslot cadmium plated sloted rotors with a set of good brake pads will run you around 500 bucks, and changing them out is pretty easy, and very self explanatory. I haven't done it yet, but I have read alot of articles on cardomain, and I am sure someone here will answer very shortly. Good luck!!

If you don't want your new brakes to acquire a bad pulsation, make sure you torque the wheels evenly in a star pattern. If using an air impact gun, buy yourself a 100 ft-lb torque stick to use. While this is not as accurateas using a torque wrench, it does the trick.

Forget the impact wrench, just get a torque wrench for under $30 and hand torque them yourself to 100#, and re-check them after 50 and 100mi. Mis-tightening lugs is the leading reason of warped rotors.

To be more correct the leading cause of warping rotors is a bad brake bed in procedure. Even if you tighten your lugs perfectly, and then you go immediately out and drive like maniac your rotors will eventually crack. You need to get a good 30-50 miles of gradual slow braking, then some good harcore romping on the brakes, then go back to good braking and you should be fine.

I've never had a set of new brakes warp, but I've had 3 bad mounts from tire rotations, and warp rotors that way. But, yes, Powerslot gives an instruction sheet on how to temper your rotors.
My opinion, Hawk HPS pads are the best for the money. Powerslots and Hawk HPS pads delivered for under $475 on the internet.
I have 93,000 miles on mine, and have 1/8" of life left.
