Any Friendly Advice?
The Monte was 16,500 with 38k on it. The extra warrenty I believe was 1600 or something. Yeah our trans usually hold up til 90k or higher miles before problems could happen and by that point the warrenty is up so, I say don't bother it was a waste for me

It's mechanical, you will never be 100% "safe".
First, inspect the car, do you research about it and get a feel for how it was maintained. Then do your research on the "extended" warranty. Some are great and others aren't worth the paper they were written on. After that, make your call on what you are comfortable with.
I'm pretty handy with a wrench and have a bunch of tools available to me. I tend to not worry about warranties on cars (plus, I am picky about who touches my cars).
No matter what, you are taking a gamble. Some folks here had warranties and were thankful they did and it saved them a boat load of money, others (like Devin) never used it. For some, it's a piece of mind, they feel that is better then taking a gamble.
Do your research.
But I agree less then 100K miles, unless it was heavily abused, should NOT be an issue. Perhaps see if the dealer will do a pan drop fluid and filter change.

Unless grandpa was taking it to the track and doing burnouts, your tranny should be peachy at only 47k. Even a "bad" transmission should last to about 100k. If there are no signs of problems, nix the warranty. Unless there are other issues you have reason to be concerned about as well?
Ok. I'm going to check it out Saturday, and I'll have the guy who rebuilt the tranny on my old car come with to be safe.

So would you guys recommend a Shift Kit at this stage of the Tranny, assuming that it's a good one? I don't plan on going too far as far as mods go. Probably just a FWI, DP, mufflers, a Tune somewhere down the road, and that's probably it.

. Well, I went to Carfax today, and picked up a Silver Beautiful 07 SS with about 40K on it. And to my suprise, they actually gave me a free extended warranty for free, since I paid cash for the car.! Haha. They gave me a 100K mile warranty, and it will cover ALL Drivetrain and Labor costs. With a 300 dollar deductable. I almost had a heart attack! Haha. It actually really helped me a lot, because the warranty was an extra 1800. Helped me a lot. Since I'm only 20, they told me that since I had to pay 1500 for 6 months of insurance, and that since I paid cash for the car, that they would help me out by giving me that for free. Man I feel like a million bucks!. Thread
