Exclamation 3 Hours To Decide! Need Advice!

So I am finally going to buy another monte. I have 2 deals on which to decide from. Today is my only day off so I am determined to buying one or the other!

Option 1: 02 Monte SS N/A

Bad transmission, needs all 4 struts and trailing arms I think its called? Car has 225k miles motor has 190k and guy wants 850 for it.

Option 2: 98 Regal GS S/C

Owner says no major issues, 190k miles and he wants 1800

I'm really tempted to go with the monte. Reasons are number 1, its a monte lol and 2 its in my price range. 1800 is a bit much for me as of right now. So just curious on what you guys think?

To me they are both a Gamble, but it really hard to advise without seeing them & being able to test drive them...

There both are great projects to bring back to life & you will know what you've put into the one you choose.

It's less of a gamble to `go for the Monte for the $'s. + it's a Monte
Good Luck on your decision & let us know what you decide ?

$850 with a bad trans means the price is really about the $1800 you don't want to spend once you fix it.

How bad is the transmission? Is the car even driveable? If the car can't be driven away, I usually offer only $500.

The regal is a nice car, if the cost is too high, go there with $1400 in cash and see if he'll bite. Just be up front with the guy, tell him you like the car, and that you only want to spend the $1400. If he doesn't want to take it, let him know you are going to buy a different car for around the same cost. It puts the pressure on him, and if he is stubborn on the price, you go buy the Monte lol

It's great to get advice & opinions from others when you buy something 4-Sure...That way when what you bought proves not 2 `be good, then you can blame others for your mistake "Misery love company" > I know that I `do when I've made a mistake (LOL)

Just blame `Space `if you've made the wrong choice(s)...

Now, I curious > are both cars running & can you test drive them ?
Are you able to check them out & take them for a long drive ?

Keep us updated & I hope you make the right choice ? If you don't go ahead & blame me, but you'll have to get in a long line >

p.s. Are you still a Bank Manager ? ? ? ? Can't you give yourself a loan ?

Yes the monte os driveable but its bound to crack any day now it feels like lol I mean 1800 is a bit high but I also won't pass up a good deal haha Space, yes I'm still a bank manager haha but I'm trying to stay away from more debt! Terrible idea since I'm already financing this Malibu lol I did a terrible thing and asked my gf for her opinion and got the typical "you don't need another car" answer lol

I understand that you don't want to spend $1,800 but whatever you are willing to spend you should throw it at your Malibu loan and pay it down. Unless your looking to get a used car, repair it and then sell the Malibu. I say wheneverr you have the cash, throw it at your loan to get out of debt.

After the work/parts that the Monte needs, isn't it going to cost you basically the same (or more) as the Regal? I guess I don't really understand the reasoning behind this car since you already have the Malibu and are currently paying that off. If you're on a tight budget, I don't think I would take a gamble on a car that is already at a high risk of breaking down on you at any second now.

Sounds like which ever one you buy the price is only going to be the tip of the iceberg. You'd be better off leaving both of them alone and pay on your debt, if you don't your only going to get more, debt that is. But that's just me, the final decision is yours. I hope you make the right one.
