Since around 85,000 miles my car now have 91,000 miles on my SS my problem is I will drive around the corner or a longer drive and when I turn the car off and try to re-start the car more times than not it wont start back up until it sits for at least a hour when I try to start it back up it just keeps cranking almost like its not getting any fuel I tried the fuel pressure regulator it worked perfect all day I drove close places and far places turned the car off/on all day and it started right back up every time the next day I did the same driving and at the end of the day it did not start up again until around a hour and when it starts back up it runs like a top power, smoothness and all. as long as I don't shut it off the car is like new money also noticed that the problem has got worse I don't drive car that much not at all during the winter (Oct-Feb.) months

I had an issue like that in my 72 chevelle SS and it was from the headers heating up the starter motor and until I had a heat shield put on the starter it would need a good 45 minutes before I could start the car. My first suggestion would be the starter as it runs fine once it sits and runs like a top once you get it started but from your post it looks like it is turning over and just not starting? if this is the case then I would strongly lean towards no fuel getting to the motor. Could be an air lock in the fuel system?
if no start, immediately remove a spark plug and inspect the end for fuel, is it wet with gas, does it smell of gas, if so, check for spark, ground the plug and crank engine, [have someone crank the engine] and look for spark, is it a strong spark?

might be fuel pump.. it gets hot and it wont function right

also just for giggles trying jumping the battery next time it happens, it could be the heat from the engine is not allowing the battery to throw the full charge to the starter and with the starter being hot as well the combination of the two being overly warm could also be causing the problem

 

I agree with ohara and would focus on the starter first. Sounds like is on the way out.
I would have said you might have a ignition switch/passlock issue, but that should have thrown a security light in the message center.

 

Even when the car is cranking could it be a starter? just like if you ran the car out of fuel and you try to start your car it keeps cranking? That's what it does

 

Whoops, I should read more carefully. Probably not the starter if it's cranking.
More likely a fuel issue like ohara mentioned.
